Kirsty Bunker Art

I was born in December 1987 in Southampton. I first started studing art at Hounsdown Secondary School where I had 2 pices of work displayed at Southampton City Art Gallery and The Castle Winchester. After that I went on to Study AVCE Art at Totton College were I furthered my education and did my Foundation which I passed with a distinction. I am now studing at The Arts Insitute in Bournemouth where I am doing a degree in Fine Art. After I’ve finished my degree I would like to go on to do a PGCE and become an art teacher for 11 years olds and above.

I am mainly interested in 3Dimensional work which shows throughout my portfolio. The core ideas of my work is to do with shapes and the way they transform from 2D to 3D. I like to use all sorts of materials for example wood, metal, stone and clay, a material that I can manipulate. I love using my hands and making things that just pop into my head. My main influences are Anthony Gormley and Andy Goldsworthy. This is because I think that the way Goldsworthy uses the environment is breathtaking, making something that can fall apart at any time and having the patience to do this. And Gormley because I admire him using a rage of materials and his “Still Falling” was the very first piece of scultpure that I saw and recognised.

My current work is made with different adhesive tapes because I enjoy making an essental 2D material into something sculptural. My other concerns are to do with perception and challenging the audience, seeing if they will believe what they are told. I want to further this exploration in the future.
